Research and Scholarly Interests

I am an Experimental Veterinary Pathologist.  As an experimental veterinary pathologist, I collaborate with investigators that utilize a variety of animal models including, but not limited to, those that recapitulate infection, cancer, nutrition/metabolic-related diseases, toxicological pathology or inflammation in multiple organ systems and in multiple species.

HISTOPATHOLOGY

I use an advanced Zeiss microscope and software to evaluate and photograph tissues via traditional light microscopy. I am skilled at histological and pathological evaluation of all organs systems of vertebrate animals and I can evaluate multiple stains including immunohistochemistry and cytochemistry. I use morphometry to better assess disease, or the lack thereof. I also assist investigators with grants, manuscripts, and experimental design in the areas related to pathology.

DIGITAL PATHOLOGY

Our lab is equipped with a state-of-the-art whole slide scanner (Scan II made by 3DHistech®). The scanner makes digital images of the glass slides that are traditionally used by pathologists, instructors, and investigators.  The scanner produces best-in-class, digital Brightfield or Fluorescent images by single layer or multi-layer (up to 30 levels) scanning at 20x or 40x objective. I utilize analytical software by Visiopharm® for computer augmented, quantifiable and precise, high-throughput evaluations of pathology in tissue.
